Home.

I'm back.

On our way to Cobble Hill we drove a bit too close to a cop. So we got pulled over and lectured. No ticket thankfully. He claimed that when you see a cop pulled over, you have to come to a full stop and wait for him to wave you by. "But I don't enforce it!"

We had dinner with my brother and his family. He regaled us with a story from when he was a child, he and the neighbour's son up a tree playing with their dinkies.

Then it was off to Parksville to stay with Heather's mom. It was a nice, relaxing place to stay. But there wasn't a hell of a lot to photograph around there. We went into Nanaimo for an afternoon for photo taking.

I didn't manage to shoot with all the cameras I took. In total I shot five rolls of 35mm, nine rolls of 120 and three rolls of 220 film.

I got home to find the computer room looking like a fortress. There was a couch and some boxes blocking access to the room. It took awhile to clear it up.

Does anyone reading this know if ABC Photocolor has special Canada Day hours on Monday?

For Whom the Bell Tolls.

It's our last day in Victoria. We're still at the apartment. There was a notice taped to the door saying that the water was going to be shut off for half an hour on Tuesday. They were off by one day. It had just came back on and I was about to get ready for a shower when the fire alarm went off. We got dressed very quickly and got out of the building. It didn't even occur to me to grab one of my cameras. Not that I would have felt good about taking photos of people in various states of dress standing around waiting for the firemen to come. It wasn't a fire though. We overheard that someone had plugged up a drain, turned on the taps, then left. The flooding into the apartment bellow set off the alarm. No damage here, but one of the cats is under the couch and won't come out.

I've shot seven rolls so far, and at least two more should be finished today. I don't know why, but I feel that this isn't enough. Heather doesn't seem to like my idea of walking the entire length of Douglas Street. We are going back into town one more time for a beer run and walk around. Then we're driving up island to Cobble Hill to visit my brother. I've been told that he's excited about our visit.

Here I am.

I'm in Victoria now. It's strange being awake and active before 9am. It's not my normal routine.

We're staying in an apartment that belongs to a friend of Heather. This friend is out of town for the next three days, and she's kindly allowing us to stay here while she's gone on the condition that Heather feeds the cats. It's a little creepy though; like staying at your grandmother's house. All sorts of old knickknacks, sheets that match the paint on the walls, framed prints hung slightly askew, and a Linux boxen in the spare bedroom.

Anyway.... I'm awake. I should go do something. I didn't come here to spend all my time at a computer.

Blech! I just found a cat hair in my mouth.

Off to the Island

Heather and I are off to Vancouver Island Sunday afternoon. We're staying in Victoria for a few days, then we're going to Parksville to stay with her mom, dropping in to visit my brother and his family in Cobble Hill on the way.

It's been at least twenty years since I've been to Victoria, and over three years since I was last away from Vancouver. (I don't think a day trip to Chilliwack counts.) I don't feel entirely comfortable leaving home right now. But this seems to be the only opportunity I'll have to get out of town anytime soon, and I very much need to see something new and different.

Poppies are one of my favorite flowers.

Enjoy this last shot of the poppies from my parents back yard. Dad was out "clearing out all that crap" today. I'm just sitting around waiting for him to come back with some gas to finish off the job.

Yes, I know they're hot, but.....

On the way home tonight some girl asked me if she could kiss my shoes. I said no.

All my friends are beetles and centipedes....

Three mornings in a row I've been woken up by a bee buzzing its way into my bedroom. I'm having a hard time getting restful sleep as it is. I've tried watching The Two Towers twice this week and fell asleep both times.

I got the latest issue of Light Leaks magazine. One of my photos takes up a full page. Go buy a copy and tell them I sent you.

Jamie ordered a 6x9 pinhole camera kit from Freestyle for me. I put it together and shot a test roll. I'll get the results later today.

Things are still stressful. Too bad there isn't very much I can do to change this.
